Qatar Bans Travellers from 14 Countries Including Philippines Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Qatar temporarily bans entry of people from the Philippines and 13 other countries.


The said decision has been made to as a "preventive measure due to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19)," Qatar government said in a statement dated March 8.

The temporary ban are applicable on travellers coming from India, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Thailand.

According to an official statement by the Ministry of Health, the temporary ban will be implemented from February 24 to March 9. This means travellers bound to Qatar with travel history from the mentioned countries will not be permitted.



"The step comes in line with the State of Qatar's efforts to take all necessary preventive measure to limit the spread of the virus... The decision affects all individuals intending to enter from these countries, including visas upon arrival, those with a residence or work permit, and tempoarary visitors," the statement read.



Moreover, Qatar Airways had announced temporary suspension of flights to and from Italy, one of the countries worst affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Classes in schools and universities have also been suspended in the country from March 10 "until further notice," Qatar News Agency reported.
