72-year-old hardworking grandma refuses to receive food packs from government "If I take what is offered to me, it will deprive others of the food"



While many other people are waiting for the relief from the government amid the coronavirus pandemic, this hardworking Malaysian grandma Huang Lai Mei in Seremban refused any help from different individuals who tried to give her food packs or cash donations.

The 72-year-old Huang said, she was still able with complete hands and legs - as long as she has all those parts of the body, she will not seek the help from anyone!

Before the pandemic disease, Huang could be seen selling snacks for many years. She was known for being friendly -  who pushes her cart to any part of the town, people would call her "Snacks Grandma".  





Since the local government units in Malaysia have imposed the Movement Control Order (MCO), many daily earners were affected with no definite income. The effort is to flatten the curve, necessary to stop the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

The government and some other private individuals are stepping up to help the people in need including Huang who was greatly affected.

But Huang refused all those help because according to her, there are still more deserving people who needs that relief the most. That statement from Huang had surprised everyone, as many young people in there area are just only waiting to whatever help they received. 

"I have enough food to feed myself. If I take what is offered to me, it will deprive others of the food. Besides, I am physically able to support myself. I have hands and feet, I can still support myself," Huang said.
