DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones Tests Positive For COVID-19



Leonor Briones, the Education Secretary of the Philippines on Thursday, April 9, announced that she was tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

"As a government official and Cabinet member, and as a Filipino, it is my duty to announce that yesterday, April 8, late afternoon, I was informed by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine that I am positive for SARS-COV-2," Briones said in a statement sent to media.








According to 79-year-old Briones, she got tested for the disease twice after she attended a March 23 meeting with a Cabinet member who later announced he was infected with the novel coronavirus. The first result came out negative on March 16.

Briones said that in her case is asymptomatic and is now in isolation. However, the Secreatry said that she will continue working through online. "Like my fellow Cabinet member, I will continue working virtually," she said.





The Philippines as of this posting, April 9 confirmed 4,076 cases with 124 recoveries and 203 deaths.
