After nearly two months of mandatory shutdown, Malaysia has extended its conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) by another month until June 9, The Star reported.

This means all rules and standard operating procedures (SOP) will continue to be implemented under the conditional MCO. However, under the conditional MCO, long queues of employees and shoppers has started to build up waiting for temperature check in local malls in Malaysia as shops begin to reopen.

While many businesses are hoping to cope from zero profit in the past two months, unfortunately other retail shops had faced another hurdle.

Recently, a Facebook post shared by netizen showed a common side-effect of the lockdown. It can be seen the extent of fungal growth on some leather products in a department store after a long period of absence.

Shoes, bags, belts and other leather products were all covered with discoloured layer of mould. Though the scene was so devastating, some netizens commented that the presence of mould proved the authenticity of the leather products.

The MCO was first enforced on March 18 for a two-week period after a spike of Covid-19 cases in the country.

It was then extended in phases, each phase lasting two weeks. The country is now in the fourth phase of the MCO, which will be in place until May 12.

However, on May 4, the government imposed the fifth phase, called the conditional MCO, which allowed almost all economic sectors to reopen.
