Health Secretary Francisco Duque said that the Philippines is now experiencing the "second wave" of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

"Actually nasa second wave tayo. Ginagawa natin ang lahat para maflatten 'yung epidemic curve at para magkaroon tayo ng sapat na panahon na mapaunlad at mapataas ang ating kakayahan sa sistemang pankalusugan," he said during the virtual meeting on Wednesday.

It was also confirmed by Dr. John Wong, who is also working as part of the government task force on COVID-19, said during the televised press briefing with the Department of Health (DOH) that the first COVID-19 wave has occurred in late January when the Philippines recorded its first three confirmed cases, while the second wave began in March.

The health chief also warned that a third wave of COVID-19 outbreak might occur if Metro Manila will ease its restrictions and shift to general quarantine.
