After the world saw a disturbing footage showing the death of unarmed black man George Floyd under the hands of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin, now his wife Kellie Chauvin is filing for divorce.
The announcement came after the fired cop was charged with murder over Floyd's death from the former Mrs. Minnesota winner.
In a statement from Sekula Law Offices, Kellie said she's "devastated" by Floyd's death "and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy."
It was mentioned in the statement that his wife has filed for the dissolution of their marriage.
"She has filed for dissolution of her marriage to Derek Chauvin."
"While Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time," the statement added.
Kellie Chauvin was a former crowned Mrs. Minnesota, who was born in Laos.In 1977, her family fled to safety in Thailand, where they lived in a refugee camp, The Associated Press reported.
