Manila is giving away free tablets and laptops with internet load in the city's public schools

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso announced that the local government of Manila is buying P994 million worth of laptops and tablets for the blended learning, set by the Department of Education (DepEd) for school year 2020-2021.


The total amount will cover 110,000 tablets with SIM cards and monthly 10 GB internet load that will distributed to the city's kinder to Grade 12 public school students and 11,000 laptops for public school teachers with pocket Wi-Fi and monthly 10GB internet load.


“Naaprubahan na sa school board, which I chair, PHP994 million. Bibili tayo ng 110,000 na tablet para sa mga batang Maynila. Walang tosgas (gastos) na ang mga magulang. (The school board which I chair already approved PHP994,000. We will buy 110,000 tablets for children in Manila. Parents need not to spend),” Domagoso said.

The gadgets are set to distribute to students and teachers before the opening of school year 2020-2021.

“Ayokong pumasok yung bata na walang kapasidad ang eskwelahan na magturo. We are the capital of the nation,” Domagoso told members of the board.


"I want you to focus all your effort on this,” he said.

He also urged the parents to enroll their children amid the COVID-19 threat, citing the importance of education for the future of their children.

Meanwhile, Manila Public School Teachers Association lauded the effort of the local government units of Manila for providing free gadgets for teachers and students, these will be a great help to their initial journey to adapt the new ways of teaching.
