Streetsweeper mum from Batangas showed us the value of education as she graduated from college

Ofelia Mondaya, 55, completed her lifelong goal: to graduate college.

The determined 55-year-old mum recently completed her Business Administration degree in Batangas City. She was praised online for fulfilling her dream, despite of old age she juggle as a mother, streetsweeper as her job and going to school for four long years.

Before her journey to college, she enrolled first at the alternative learning system of the Department of Education in 2014. After she passed, the local government offered her the scholarship program of the city so she could continue for her desired course at the Batangas City College.

Proud daughter Crizel told ABS-CBN news that she saw how her mother give all the sacrifices and patience for her studies.

"Proud na proud kami sa kaniya. Hindi man kami nakapagtapos, katulad ng kanyang pinapangarap sa amin, masaya kami kasi siya 'yung halos tumupad na rin ng pangarap namin," said Crizel.

Though she won't be able to walk across the stage to accept her diploma due to COVID-19 pandemic, still nothing compares her happiness upon receiving the good news from her school.

“Huwag na po nating hintayin na tayo ay magkaedad pa o maging matanda bago mag-aral… Kailangan po talaga maging positibo tayo sa buhay at gawin po natin 'yung tama at alam natin na makakatulong sa atin. Ganoon din po sa ating kapwa," Ofelia said.
