Watch: June's annular eclipse on Father's Day!

Lucky stargazers in  Africa including the Central African Republic, Congo and Ethiopia; North of Yemen and Oman; South of Pakistan, northern India; China and Taiwan will see the annular solar eclipse.



Today, June 21, is the celebration of Father's Day at the same time this day marks the longest day in 2020.

"Annular eclipses are similar to total eclipses in that the moon, Earth and sun are aligned so that the moon moves directly in front of the Sun as viewed from Earth," said Alex Young, associate director for science in the heliophysics science division at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.


Best spots to see the annular eclipse in the Philippines are Itbayat will have the biggest obscuration at 91 percent while Tuguegarao will have 80 percent; Visayas, 52 to 66 percent; and Mindanao, 42 to 56 percent, PAGASA said.

Don't miss this once in a lifetime event that is expected to take place again on February 28, 2063 which can be seen in most part of Mindanao. Another annular eclipse will occur on July 24, 2074 passing through Southern Luzon.
