30-year-old man dies after attending 'COVID Party': 'He thought he was young and he was invincible'

A 30-year-old Texas man who thought coronavirus is a hoax died after attending a "COVID party".

The party was organized by young people diagnosed with the disease and 'they'll have a party to invite their friends over to see if they can beat the disease,' Dr. Jane Appleby, chief medical officer at San Antonio's Methodist Hospital told KSAT news.

“One of the things that was heart-wrenching that he said to his nurse was, ‘You know, I think I made a mistake," Dr. Jane Appleby said, referring to a man initially did not believe in COVID-19.

“He thought the disease was a hoax,” Appleby added. “He thought he was young and he was invincible and wouldn’t get affected by the disease.”

Other reports said, some college students even gambled money for a price to the winner - the one who could catch COVID-19 first.

"My plea to our community and especially all of our young folks in the community is to take it seriously. Wear your mask," Appleby added.

There are more than 12 million people have contracted the deadly virus worldwide and the World Health Organization also reported over 551,000 have died due to the disease.
