The Philippines has recorded worrying surges in coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with the total of 85,486 confirmed COVID-19 cases - overtaking mainland China where the virus emerged last year.
China has a total of 84,060 cases as of Wednesday, according to the latest report posted by the World Health Organization.

The Department of Health reported 1,874 additional COVID-19 cases with 728 contributed or 39% from the National Capital Region (NCR). The provinces among the top five include Cebu (325), Laguna (130), Iloilo (67), and Rizal (53).
The University of the Philippines researchers recently warned that the number of coronavirus cases would reach up to 85,000 with 2,000 deaths by end of July.
