At least 12 were killed and 34 others were injured in a suicide bombing that happened in Jolo, Sulu on Monday, reports said.
"Lima 'yung patay tapos 16 'yung wounded," Western Mindanao Command chief Major General Corleto Vinluan as quoted from GMA News report. "Malaki masyado 'yung IED na ginamit."
He also said four civilians were killed in the incident.
In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV, Lt. Col. Ronald Mateo, Civil Military Relations Officer of the 11th infantry division, however, said the number of fatalities from the military already rose to six.
"Mayroong dalawang magkasunod na pagsabog dito kanina. 'Yung una is 11:55 a.m. and then 'yung pangalawa ay 1 p.m. As of now, anim na killed in action na sundalo at 18 na wounded in action na sundalo," Mateo said.
Mateo expressed belief that the local terror Abu Sayyaf Group was behind the attacks, especially that leader Anduljihad "Idang" Susukan was arrested by authorities early this month.
"Most probably ang terroristic act na ito is being perpetrated by the Abu Sayyaf group," Mateo said. "'Yan pa 'yung tinitingnan namin. We cannot still establish kung retaliatory ba nila 'yan."
