Russia to start mass produce coronavirus vaccine in coming weeks

Russia is the first country in the world to developed the first vaccine for coronavirus and it's planning to mass produce next month, President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday. The announcement comes after two months of human trials and it was the first in the world to grant regulatory approval to a vaccine against COVID-19.

"This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered," he said during a televised video conference call with government ministers.

Putin emphasized that the vaccine had passed all the necessary tests and one of his daughter has already received a shot of the vaccine developed by Gamaleya Research Institute and Russian Defence Ministry.

"She's feeling well and has a high number of antibodies," Putin added.

Russia previously vowed that it would win the global race for an effective product, but some experts have raised concerns about the vaccine's efficiency and safety. Moscow had stated earlier that mass vaccinations could begin by October. Other countries like the Philippines had already shown interest in receiving vaccines.

Authorities have said that medical worker, teachers and other frontline workers will be the first to be vaccinated by a vaccine named 'Sputnik V' for foreign markets.
