Wesley So Wins US Chess Championship Title 2020

 Filipino-American Wesley So has won for the second time the US Chess Championship on October 29, 2020, remained unbeaten in his title run.




"It amazes me how many friends and encouragers take time out to watch my games even though I am sure they have their own important stuff to do. I am very grateful. I am just a kid trying to earn a living as is everyone else and to have so much support astounds me," he said on his Facebook post.





"Winning the US Championships for the second time is a gift at the end of a very long hard year. I know most people in the world are suffering in different ways and my prayer is that God would give you something special to help through the hard times just as He has done for me today," he added.





So, who started his carrer in the Philippines has swept the US tourney scoring 9 points in 7 wins and 4 draws against Alex Lenderman, Alejandro Ramirez, Awonder Liang, Sam Shankland, Dariusz Swiercz, Elshan Moradiabadi, Jeffery Xiong, Ray Robson, Lenier Dominguez, Sam Sevian, and Hikaru Nakamura, respectively.





He first won the US Chess Champion title in 2017 and secured the title for the second time after ended in a draw against fellow super Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura in the final round.



The 27-year-old So has won cash prize of $40,000 (approx. P1.9 million) in his latest victory in the US Chess Championship.
