Determined Illinois' woman who gave birth during bar exams now a lawyer

A first time mom Brianna Hill, a woman who took the Bar exam while in labor successfully passed the Illinois State Bar Exam last October.

"I PASSED," Brianna rejoice as she announced the good news on Facebook. "I am SO Happy I get to be a lawyer officially and an so thankful that I got here. Now, I am going to go celebrate with my cute little family," she said.

Everything happened when the coronavirus pandemic changed the timing of the exams from July to October. She took the test in her home, with surveilance technology in place used to watch the examiners.

Minutes later into her test, she went into labor. "I didn't think about it because I was in the test," she said.

During the break, she made an important calls and went back to finish the rest of her exam.

"I cleaned myself up, called my husband and the test kept going," she said.

Hill, who just completed the first portion of her exam and, hours later, she gave birth to a healthy boy, Cassius Phillip.

Her midwife assured her she still had time to get to the hospital, at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. Hill and her husband checked into the hospital at 5:30 pm and their little boy arrived in the world just after 10 pm.

But there was still another day of test-taking to go. Determined to finish what she started, Hill, still in the hospital, spent the following day taking the final leg of the exam.

"I took part of the exam sitting on towels because my water had broken and the other part sitting on an ice pack because I had given birth the night before," Hill said.

Hill thanked everyone for the support especially the hospital and its staff, her midwife, one Missy Furlette-Koski, for making her “exam conditions possible.”

"I hemorrhaged after birth and took the second day of the test while anemic. I only slept for 1.5 hours before the second day of the test because my sweet baby was SO grunty. I breastfed my baby in between sessions. I did all of this because I did not see any other option to accomplish both my goals- become a lawyer and a mom," she added.

A lot of y’all already know my birth/bar exam story (thanks Kaitlyn Hill 😂) but I haven’t said much on my personal page...
