Japan confirms first 5 cases of new COVID strain found in UK

 A new strain of coronavirus which was first reported in the United Kingdom to be potentially more contagious has been detected in Japan. According to a report from Nikkei Asia, at least five people were infected with the U.K. strain of coronavirus. 







All affected individuals had recently returned from Britain, according to Health Minister Norihisa Tamura as quoted in a report. So far, no further details have been released about the travelers who arrived between December 18 and 21.





Aside from U.K., this particular strain has also been reported in Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, Germany,  and Singapore.  It is known to be more transmissible than other strains, but experts say there is no evidence yet that suggest it is more damaging.





Meanwhile, Tokyo confirms record-high with 949 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday. Japan now experiencing a surge that now includes a new, fast-spreading strain.
