Transfer of NegOcc Capitol to Talisay City proposed

To make public service more accessible to his constituents in the province of Negros Occidental, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed the plans to relocate the provincial government center from Bacolod to Talisay City.

If push through, the Capitol plans to utilized its 25-hectare property in Brgy. Matab-ang, Talisay City.

"I just realized that, if we continue building the new provincial government office here in the area of North Capitol Road, it will be so crowded already," Lacson said.

Earlier this week, Capitol consultant Alfredo Benitez revealed the plans of moving the seat of the Provincial Government to neighboring Talisay.

"It is hard for the seat of the provincial government to be located in a jurisdiction it does not control," Benitez said.

The local chief executive of Talisay town, Mayor Neil Lizares, also welcomed the proposal.

“In behalf of the City of Talisay, I would like to personally thank the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental under the leadership of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson for the trust and confidence in considering our City as the new home of the offices of the Provincial Capitol Government,” Lizares said.

Bacolod City is a highly urbanized city not under the jurisdiction of the Negros Occidental provincial government.
