Atleast 7 areas mostly in northern Negros Occidental was heavily affected by floods such as Talisay, Silay, EB Magalona, Victorias, Cadiz, Sagay, and Escalante. Thousands of people were evacuated overnight to evacuations centers.
"Continuous rains are really a factor, plus we also saw a lot of obstruction in our river systems like garbage, siltation of river banks and river system have contributed to the high water level in our area," Zeaphard Caelian, head of the Disaster Management Program Division of the province said in an interview with TeleRadyo.
Initial reports from Victorias, at least 1,089 families were evacuated, more than 200 families in Talisay, 295 families from 19 barangays were also evacuated in Silay City.
Some families have already returned to their home after the flood subsided.
In light of the recent flooding in Talisay City, we are once again asking if you may kindly donate to help our Negrosanon kasamas. Thank you! #NegrosNeedsHelp #ReliefPH https://t.co/4Ro5xblslL pic.twitter.com/fjbW4WlBXR
