Japan detects new COVID-19 variant different from that of UK

 Japan's Health Ministry on Sunday announced that they have detected a new variant of COVID-19 from four people who had arrived in Tokyo from Brazil.







The four travelers were found to have infected by a new strain that is different from those in Britain and South Africa, Head of country’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) said on January 10. 





While the new variant are currently under depth study, authorities reported that there was no evidence at present that the new strain was more contagious.





One of the four who got infected in his 40s has been hospitalized after he suffered difficulties in his breathing, a woman in her 30s developed sore throat, while a male teenager experienced a fever.





The National Institute of Infectious Diseases, had analyzed the patients’ samples, said it is difficult to determine the new variant’s transmissibility at present.




Last week, Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has declared a state of emergency for the nation's capital and surrounding areas as Covid-19 cases surge to the highest levels since the start of the pandemic.
