Western Visayas longest bridge opens in Aklan, cuts travel time to Boracay to just 45 minutes

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar led the inauguration of the bridge located on the boundaries of Barangay Tigayon, Kalibo and Barangay Mina, Lezo, Aklan, is expected to cut travel time going to the famous Boracay island.







The P500-M new Kalibo bridge which spans around 770-meter is part of the ongoing 16-kilometer Aklan circumferential road project which traverses the adjacent towns of Kalibo, Numancia, Lezo, and Makato. This would cut the travel time going to Boracay island in Malay from one hour and a half to 45 minutes.





"Around 6,000 motorists, residents and tourists are anticipated to feel the benefits of its completion," said by DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.







Meanwhile, Governor Florencio Miraflores said the project started in 2013 when they were planning for ways to cut the travel time of tourists bound to the world-famous Boracay Island.





“We were looking then of ways of how we could cut travel time to tourists bound to Boracay,” added Miraflores.
