Negros prepares as Auring intensifies into severe tropical storm

 Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) has issued "Heightened alert" status in the province as tropical depression Auring entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.





The province is preparing for the possible effects of typhoon Auring that is expected to hit the province either by Sunday, February 21 or Monday. 






According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather bulletin as of 11 a.m. to today, February 19, severe tropical storm Auring was located 535 kms. east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 95 kms per hour(KPH) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.








Currently, tropical cyclone signal no. 1 was placed to Davao Oriental, the eastern portion of Davao de Oro, eastern portion of Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur.





Moderate to heavy rains are likely expected over the weekend in Eastern Visayas, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin and Bukidnon. Auring is expected to make landfall over the Caraga Region's eastern coast on Sunday morning.
