Teen wakes up from 10-month coma unaware about COVID-19

After waking up from 11-month long coma, this teen has no knowledge about coronavirus pandemic despite being infected with the deadly virus twice.

Joseph Flavill, 19, was left into coma March 1 after being hit by a car in Trent, Staffordshire, just three weeks before the United Kingdom went into lockdown, The Guardian reported.

He is now slowly recovering but his family are struggling to explain everything to him.

"I just don’t know where to start with it," his aunt Sally Flavill Smith told the Guardian.

"A year ago if someone had told me what was going to happen over the last year, I don’t think I would have believed it. I’ve got no idea how Joseph’s going to come to understand what we’ve all been through," Smith was quoted as saying.

"When he’s awake in his room, he’s not going to have any idea why he’s there. We do talk about it on the phone, and we try to make him aware that we really want to be there holding his hands, but we’re just unable to do it [because of Covid]," she added.

Smith, said that they tried 'to keep it simple as possible' so that he could easily understand about the global pandemic once he could fully recover. Because of the restrictions, most of Flavill's family have been able to check him via video calls in the past 10 months.

His mother has been allowed to visit him, but only at a distance and dressed in protective dear, according to CNN.
