Dr. Deo Florence Onda is the first young microbial oceanographer and associate professor at the Marine Science Institute of the University of the Philippines who reached the third deepest spot on earth and wave the Philippine flag.
Deo, together with American explorer Victor Vescovo successfully made 36,000 feet descent to the bottom of the 3rd deepest point of the world's oceans.
The Emden Deep is located inside the Philippines' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Deo took the pride and shared to his social media account their video down below.
"This was the first crew descend into above the Philippine trench, and specifically in the Emden deep deepest point," Victor said.
We've reached the Emden Deep.

A photo of the two captured raising the Philippine flag was also shared by the UP Marine Science Institute on its Facebook page.
Victor has the world's record of the first human to dive solo to the bottom of the deepest point of all five of the world's oceans. In 2019, he held the Guinness World Record for the deepest dive in Marianas Trench, which is the deepest spot on earth.
