Mandatory seminar for drivers' license renewal 'Not True' - DOTr

Several motorists were shocked about the social media post which appeared to be an announcement coming from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) XI.

"Mandatory Seminar For Drivers' License Renewal," the announcement read. Added that "the four-hour reorientation course is needed for non-professional driver's license while eight-hour reorientation course is required for holders of the professional driver's license."

Lawyer Loida Igdanes, spokesperson of the LTO XI, told Davao City Disaster Radio that based on Republic Act No. 10930, there will be strict issuance of drivers’ licenses of which the validity runs up to ten years.

She revealed that the reorientation seminar will start by October this year.

Dubbed as drivers' enhancement program, the LTO will partner with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in issuing certificates to the drivers. However, she clarified that there is no four to eight-hour seminar requirement yet due to the absence of the guidelines.

She said that they are waiting for the finalization of guidelines from the LTO national office.

However, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) through secretary Goddes Hope Libiran, said that there is no directive for that, and it was only a proposal which is up for discussion and consultation.

"Wala pang ganon. Proposal pa lang for discussion and consultation," she said in a Facebook post.

FYI: WALA PONG GANITO. Mayroon pa lamang pong proposal for possible discussion and consultation. #StopTheHate
