National ID encounter glitches on first day of online registration

 Users have struggled to access the website of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) as it experienced "technical difficulties" on the first day of the launching of National ID step 1 registration, Friday, April 30.







In an advisory, the agency apologized for the inconvenience caused by the downtime.



"We received more than 40,000 registration requests during the first minutes of the pilot launch. This caused delays in the sending of the one time passwords (OTPs) necessary to proceed with the registration," the announcement read.

It assured the public that its technical team was working to resolve the issue.

Some were able to register in the system from their homes but unable to received a one-time pin.

The PhilSys ID or national ID is a unified identification system that will serve as valid proof for eligibility in social welfare programs and benefits from the government. This could also serve as a supporting requirement for loan and bank account applications. It would also help fast-track the country's vaccination program and distribution of financial aid.
