Russia authorizes single dose Sputnik Light COVID vaccine

 Russia has authorized the use of single dose version of Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine called "Sputnik Light" developed by Moscow's Gamaleya research Institute that would cost less than $10 a dose.







Sputnik Light vaccine has demonstrated 79.4 percent  efficacy, according to the data taken from 28 days after jab was administered as past of Russia's effort vaccination program. 




The new vaccine has proven effective against all new strains of coronavirus, according to Gamaleya Center during laboratory tests





"Introducing a new member of the Sputnik family - a single dose Sputnik Light!



"It’s a revolutionary 1-shot COVID-19 vaccine with the 80% efficacy - higher than many 2-shot vaccines.



"Sputnik Light will double vaccination rates and help to handle epidemic peaks," the tweet read.






The vaccine has undergone Phases 1 and 2 clinical trials with the interim result for the Phase 3 study expected this month, involving 7,000 people from Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and other nations. 




Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) said, Sputnik Light is expected to be exported to other countries to help increase the rate of vaccinations during the pandemic.
