Former president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III who have been suffering from various illness has died at the age of 61 on Thursday, June 24.
He was hospitalized at the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City. After 5 years since he stepped down from office, the known smoker former president has been out of the public eye.
"It is with profound sadness that I learned this morning of the passing of former Pres. Benigno Aquino," Supreme Court justice Marvic Leonen, who was appointed by Aquino in 2012, said in a statement.
"It was an honor to have served with him. He will be missed," he added on his statement.
Noynoy has served the country from 2010 to 2016, where he gained public support to the presidency after the 2009 death of his mother, Corazon Aquino.
