Air purifiers are required for Cebu PUV drivers, conductors starting next week

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has required all public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and conductors to use wearable air purifiers aside from face masks and face shields starting Monday, August 16.

Police personnel are ordered to implement the new measure which will include the inspection of air purifiers during checkpoints.

"We cannot deny that the number of COVID-19 cases has increased. So we are trying to put all possible measures to stem the transmission by containing it," Garcia said.

She told that the highest surge of transmission happen in public transport, wherein drivers and conductors are the ones directly exposed to the passengers.

"Our established health protocols turn to science and technology - to air purifiers, that in fact, create a safer atmosphere in that, negative ions that catch virus, pollens, microbes, bacteria, and neutralize it can be achieved through  air purifiers with HEPA filters and personal air purifiers," Garcia said in a livestream press conference.

A wearable air purifier is a small device typically worn like a necklace. The device is supposed creates a bubble of clean air around your head by continuously emitting negative ions that push pollutants away from you so you won't inhale it.
