Barbie's new collection honored medical frontline workers, and among those models is the Filipino American Dr. Audrey Sue Cruz. The toy company Mattel Inc. has created six different faces of Barbie dolls to thank the current pandemic heroes.
On her Instagram post, 31-year-old internist was so excited to show her own Barbie doll which was made after her.
"I’m SO incredibly honored to be a @Barbie Role Model as part of their #ThankYouHeroes program," she wrote.

"With this honor, I hope to shine a light on the commitment and compassion all frontline workers exhibited over the past year and a half and every single day.
"I hope to represent minorities in America and encourage cultural advocacy. I hope to represent working moms who are balancing their careers while raising a family. And I hope to show all young women that they can be ANYTHING they want to be — even a physician mom and engineering grad like this girl."
Dr. Cruz worked as a full-time physician and a faculty member at the Loma Linda University Medical Center in California. Mattel also reported that Cruz is an advocate in fight against racial bias and discrimination especially to Asian American healthcare workers.
Other healthcare workers honored with a customized Barbie doll were: Amy O'Sullivan (emergency room nurse who treated the first COVID-19 patient in Brooklyn, U.S.A.); Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa (psychiatry resident at the University of Toronto, Canada - advocate against systemic racism in healthcare.); Sarah Gilbert (professor who led the development of the University of Oxford vaccine in the United Kingdom; Dr. Jaqueline Goes de Jesus (biomedical researcher who led genome sequencing efforts for the coronavirus variant detection in Brazil; and Dr. Kirby White (general practitioner who led the initiative of developing reusable personal protective equipment for frontline personnel in Victoria, Australia.
