Belo's pandemic effect Ad draws flak for insensitive portrayal of character, send apology

The Belo Medical Group was quick to do actions over the negative feedback their ad received online by posting apology on their social media account and have taken down the video ad.

The one-minute and twenty five seconds video clip showed a woman in the couch which appeared to be watching TV news. While several bad news were heard, she slowly change into a fat, hairy, and awful woman.

The advertisement then ended with the tagline, "tough times call for beautiful measures" and a call to book a consultation with Belo. However, it seems that other social media folks were not happy and accused the beauty outlet of shaming women as they go through the effects of pandemic.

One said: "It was just a minute of skin & body shaming, so that they can exploit money in people's insecurities, who were just confused by the beauty standard that is set by the same kind people who created this ad."

Due to the flaks online, Belo Medical Group took down the video on their social media platform and issued an apology.

"We apologize about our recent Pandemic Effect film, Thank you for being gracious in letting us know your thought about it.

"We hear you. You helped us see what we failed to see, which is that the film is insensitive and upsetting. Because of this, we have taken the ad down."

"We commit ourselves to learning from this and ti bring our learnings into the future," the brand said.
