New Zealand to go into nationwide lockdown over one COV*D case

 New Zealand has confirmed one coronavirus case and its planning for nationwide lockdown, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Tuesday.





Authorities are assuming that it was the contagious Delta variant, although result is underway. According to reports, a 58-year-old man in Auckland was tested positive for the virus. The man is said to have traveled to other parts of the country, Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said.





New Zealand will implement a more stern lockdown for the next three days statring from 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, local time, Ardern said. Everyone must stay home and businesses are closed aside for essential services such as supermarkets and pharmacies. Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula where the patient traveled are likely to be under a level four lockdown for a week.



"We are one of the last countries in the world to have the Delta variant in our community. 



 "We're in the position to learn from experience overseas, and what actions work, and what actions don't work," Ardern said.





New Zealand has been praised for its handling of the virus with fewer than 3,000 COVID cases and only 26 deaths.
