LTO: DRIVERS WHO WILL RENEW THEIR LICENSES NEED TO PASS COMPREHENSIVE DRIVER'S EDUCATION (CDE) TEST

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will implement a free comprehensive driver's education program (CDE) as mandated by the law.

According to Edgar C. Galvante, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary said that the CDE contains modules intended to remind drivers for road safety. Drivers who will renew their licenses should pass the evaluation test to get their CDE certificate of completion, which is needed for their license renewal.

The CDE materials and evaluation test are available for free at the LTO Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal@lto.gov.ph.

The materials is downloadable from lto.gov.ph and are also available in all LTO offices nationwide.

LTO clarified that CDE is different from the required driver's education module for student drivers and new license applicants.

The 10-year license is scheduled to roll out nationwide under Republic Act No. 10930. But for now it was only offered in Metro Manila. The 10-year license will be given to existing license holders who do not have existing traffic violations, while those with violations will remain to the current 5-year license.

HOW TO GET A CDE CERTIFICATE?

To get a CDE certificate, applicants must take a driver's education exam. Those who attend the CDE program on DECs will have to take the exam face-to-face, while those who choose to accomplish the course online can take the  CDE Online Validation Exam via the portal.

The passing score to get a certificate are the following:

  • Non-Professional: 50% or at least 13 correct answers out of 25 questions.
  • Professional: 50% or at least 13 correct answers out of 25 questions.
