At least seven people including five women and two men died after a passenger vessel carrying 142 passengers and crew on board caught fire early Monday morning from Polilio Island to the port of Real, Quezon, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
There are four people are still unaccounted for while 105 were rescued , according to PCG while the search and rescue operations is are ongoing.
Photos showed passengers afloat in the water and holding onto floating objects while the fire engulfed the ferry. Another vessel immediately came to rescue panicked passengers.
Initial report said that the fire broke out from its engine room. At least 6 passengers have been brought to the nearest hospital.
