Indian police formed a special investigative unit to probe the death of the said girl who was set on fire after allegedly rejecting a marriage proposal. The case causes anger in the country as it violates women. Violence against women in India has become rampant in their country.
The accused is Shhrukh-a Muslim man who lived in the same locality as the victim in the Dumka district of the Eastern State of Jharkhand.
After the 19-year-old Hindu girl rejected the marriage proposal. Thereafter, the man poured Petrol on the victim named Ankita. She was asleep when the man did such a horrible incident through her house window. She died in the hospital of severe burn injuries.
The accused, according to the police, the accused was taken into custody on August 23, news agency ANI reported.
Ankita Kumari, a class 12 girl, was initially taken to Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka in severe condition. She was thereafter referred to Ranchi's Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) for further treatment.
Her death sparked protests in the state after Shahrukh, a Muslim allegedly wanted to commit 'love jihad' by marrying Ankita and forcing her to convert from Hinduism to Islam.
