The sets of human remains found in Purok Pulang Lupa, Sta Lourdes, Puerto Princesa was now identified.
According to the local news Palawan Daily, the remains found in a week now have been identified through a DNA test has resulted 99.99% belongs to Jovelyn Galleno.
Several belongings such as IDs of Jovelyn Galleno was found in the location.
However, two cousins are the suspect to the case, according to the local media reports.
The cousin of missing woman has confessed that he r*aped and k*lled her 22-year-old mall worker cousin.
Leobert Dasmarinas admitted that he was an accomplice to the crime, saying that he and the victim's other cousin, Jovert Valdestamon, planned it after showing interest in Galleno.
“He was interested in my cousin. He told me he wanted to r*pe someone,” Dasmariñas said in Filipino, referring to Valdestamon.
Dasmariñas recalled that they stalked Galleno and waited for her before they dragged her into the woods, where Valdestamon assaulted and raped her.
“The moon was bright which allowed me to see that he was taking off the clothes of my cousin. She was still breathing,” he said. “He signaled for me to come over. When I got there, my cousin was no longer breathing. She was gone,” he added.
Dasmariñas claimed he only stood as the lookout and did not assault or rape the victim.
“I did not do anything to her. I was just scared that he [Valdestamon] would harm me because he just got out of prison,” Dasmariñas explained.
On Tuesday (August 23), Dasmariñas surrendered to authorities and informed them of the place where they allegedly dumped her body. Officers said they found a skull and some bones. An investigation is ongoing to corroborate the statements of the suspect. The remains that were discovered will undergo DNA test to confirm that they belong to Galleno, according to police.
