Philippines tennis fans rejoices after Alexandra "Alex" Eala won the 2022 United States Open Girls Single Championship.
Eala made a historic first Filipino teen tennis player capturing a Grand Slam singles title.
From tournament No. 10 seed Eala defeated the No.2 seed and World Juniors No. 3 Czech Lucie Havlickova in two sets, 6-2, 6-4, in the US Open finals held in New York City, September 10.
"Unang una gusto ko lang magpasalamat sa pamilya ko. Kasi kung hindi dahil sa kanila hindi ko talaga to kakayanin. Maraming salamat din sa lahat ng nagdasal at nagsuporta sa akin. Sa aking mga sponsors, Globe, Nike, Babolat, and of course to my team, the RafaelNafal Tennis Academy," said Eala during the presentation of the championship trophy.
