THAILAND MASS SHOOTING KILLS 34 IN DAYCARE CENTRE INCLUDING CHILDREN

Thailand - Thirty-four people including 23 children were killed in Thailand in a gun and knife attak at a daycare center by an ex-policeman. The country mourn on Friday, putting government buildings flag at half mast.

The incident happened at a daycare centre in Uthai Sawan, a town 500 km northeast of Bangkok, on Thursday, marking one of the worst child death tolls in a massacre by a single killer in recent history.

"The shooter came in around lunch time and shot four or five officials at the childcare centre first," said Jidapa, adding that among them was an eight month pregnant teacher.

The gunmen reached his way into a locked room were children are sleeping, killing them with a knife.

Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Panya Kamrap. Authority told PPTV in an interview that he was fired from the force earlier this year because of drug-related offenses.

Children at the school ranged from two to five years old, a local official said.

"It's a scene that nobody wants to see. From the first step when I went in, it felt harrowing," Piyalak Kingkaew, a first responder told Reuters.

In the videos circulated on social media, family members could be heard weeping outside the building. Ambulances stood by as police and medics walked around.
