PHILHEALTH CONTRIBUTION HIKE, SUSPENDED THIS YEAR

The DOH and Philhealth fear that Malacañang's suspension of the additional contribution will affect the implementation of the benefit plan, but the suspension is a blessing for the workers.

This new year is supposed to be the new additional contribution of Philhealth members in accordance with the Universal Health Care Law.

Based on the Universal Health Care Law, in addition to the premium payment of the members, there must be an appropriate height and expansion of the benefits they can get from health services including KonSulta (Konsultang Sulit at Tama), comprehensive primary care such as consultations, health risk screenings, laboratory tests, and medicines. It is also expected to provide outpatient therapeutic care for severe and acute malnutrition, an outpatient package for mental health, and a continuous Covid-19 benefit package.

However, Malacañang suspended the Philhealth contribution hike this year.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the Philhealth Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) to suspend the increase of premium rate and income ceiling for the calendar year 2023.

A memorandum released from the Office of the President signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin for DOH and Philhealth is said to aim at providing financial relief for Filipinos.

Bersamin cited, "socioeconomic challenges and difficult times" as reasons for suspending the increase of premium rate and income ceiling.
