South Korean idol Nam Woo-hyun, a member of the popular boy group INFINITE, recently opened up about his battle with cancer.
The 32-year-old singer was diagnosed with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), a rare type of cancer in the digestive system. He underwent surgery in April 2023 and is now on the road to recovery.
In an interview with Korea Times, Nam Woo-hyun shared the daunting experience of being diagnosed with GIST. He called the surgery a “non-negotiable” and explained that he had to quickly wrap up his fan events and performances before undergoing the procedure.
The surgery left a 20-centimeter scar on Nam Woo-hyun's stomach, and he had to endure the discomfort of refraining from drinking water for almost three weeks. Despite the challenges, Nam Woo-hyun remained determined to overcome his illness and continue his musical career.
Earlier this week, Nam Woo-hyun released his new album, Whitree, which he describes as an encapsulation of his journey battling cancer. He dedicates the album to his fans, who have been a constant source of support during his difficult time.
Despite facing breathing problems that make performing more challenging, Nam Woo-hyun has made a swift comeback to the stage. He explains that he couldn't delay his return any longer and wanted to show his fans his improved state.
Nam Woo-hyun's courage and determination are an inspiration to many. He has shown that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve one's dreams.
