MANILA, Philippines - Upon hearing the news that Nike would be reintroducing another Kobe Bryant signature sneaker this year, Alyssa Valdez was overcome with emotion.
The late NBA legend's eighth signature shoe was set to make a comeback, and for Valdez, it represented far more than just a pair of hyped-up kicks.
"When I heard that the Kobe 8 was coming back, my first reaction was to cry because it was the best shoe for me personally," Valdez revealed to Inquirer Sports following Creamline's eighth consecutive victory.
"And you know how much I love Kobe Bryant. It's really an amazing feeling for me to be wearing these shoes."
The Kobe 8 holds a special place in Valdez's heart as it was the shoe she wore when Ateneo captured its first UAAP women's volleyball championship in Season 76 in 2014.
The Blue Eagles overcame the thrice-to-beat La Salle to etch their names in history, with Valdez, the UAAP Most Valuable Player, wearing the Kobe 8 PP Gorge Green colorway during their triumphant run.
