Ateneo Lights Up Green in Support of La Salle's UAAP Championship Win

In a surprising display of sportsmanship, Ateneo de Manila University lit up some of its iconic buildings in green, the official color of their archrival De La Salle University, to celebrate La Salle's victory in the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball finals.

The De La Salle Green Archers are the UAAP Season 86 champions after a nail-biting 73-69 victory over the UP Fighting Maroons in Game 3 of the finals, played before a record-breaking crowd of 25,192 at the Big Dome. This historic win broke a seven-year drought for the Taft-based squad.

News reported that La Salle's MVP, Kevin Quiambao, was instrumental in the team's success, particularly in the final game where his defensive prowess helped secure the victory. Head Coach Topex Robinson expressed his initial doubts after the first game's loss, but lauded his players for their resilience and determination.

While Ateneo and La Salle are traditionally fierce rivals in the UAAP, this gesture of sportsmanship showcases a heartwarming moment of respect and camaraderie. The lights of Church of the Gesù and the Areté building illuminated in green serve as a powerful symbol of unity and sportsmanship, transcending the usual competitive spirit.

Ateneo's Facebook page echoed this sentiment, congratulating La Salle and extending their signature school cheer, "Animo!" This unexpected act of support underscores the true meaning of sportsmanship and the importance of celebrating each other's achievements.
