Philippines Braces for Possible LPA on first "Simbang Gabi"

A cluster of clouds outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has formed into a low pressure area (LPA) and may enter the country by Saturday, the state weather agency Pagasa announced Thursday.

While the LPA currently sits 1,865 kilometers east of Southeastern Mindanao (still outside PAR), Pagasa weather specialist Patrick del Mundo said it has a small chance of intensifying into a tropical depression in the next two days. However, its potential entry into PAR is more likely, with Saturday being the possible date.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon ("amihan") continues to influence Luzon, bringing isolated light rains to Metro Manila, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. Easterlies are also affecting the rest of the country. Despite the LPA, Pagasa expects generally fair weather conditions nationwide over the next 24 hours.
