Abueva Fined ₱100,000 for Mocking, Avoids Suspension Despite Altercations

Abueva Fined ₱100,000 for Mocking Coach, Avoids Suspension after Apologies

Magnolia forward Calvin Abueva escaped suspension but received a significant ₱100,000 fine for his behavior during their Commissioner's Cup game against San Miguel.

Several incidents throughout the match drew scrutiny, including a verbal altercation with coach Jorge Gallent and a heated exchange with Mo Tautuaa's wife at the arena hallway.

The hefty fine stems from Abueva's act of mocking Gallent's visual disability, captured on the arena's jumbotron after a tense exchange between the two. PBA rules strictly forbid such actions, stating, "any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of 'physical disability' shall be subject to a fine not lower than ₱100,000."

However, Abueva avoided further penalties due to his apologies. He expressed remorse to the PBA, coach Gallent (who accepted the apology), and Mo Tautuaa and his wife after a private meeting facilitated by Commissioner Willie Marcial.

The commissioner warned both parties that similar incidents in the future would result in harsher consequences.
