Forget roses and chocolates, Filipinos are sending a clear message for Valentine's Day: cash is king! A recent survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed that 16% of respondents named money as their top desired gift, surpassing even love and companionship (11%) and flowers (10%).

The survey, conducted among 1,200 individuals nationwide, paints a picture of practicality taking center stage for this romantic holiday. While traditional gifts like apparel (9%) and heartfelt gestures (5%) still hold some appeal, financial considerations seem to be at the forefront for many Filipinos.

This preference for practicality transcends gender, with 19% of women and 12% of men desiring money as their top gift. Men, however, also expressed a significant interest in apparel (14%).

Beyond material gifts, the survey also explored Filipinos' overall love lives. While 58% reported being "very happy," 23% admitted to feeling they "could be happier," and 19% identified as not having a current love life.

This information offers valuable insights into the evolving preferences and realities of Filipinos on Valentine's Day. While romantic gestures and expressions of love remain important, the survey highlights the growing significance of financial stability and practicality in gift choices.
