Veteran QB Kirk Cousins Lands in Atlanta

Multiple US media outlets reported on Monday that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is heading south to join the Atlanta Falcons on a lucrative four-year deal worth $180 million.

The 35-year-old Cousins opted for Atlanta after failing to reach a contract agreement with his current team. The Vikings confirmed his departure in a statement that acknowledged his contributions but highlighted the inability to find common ground on a new contract.

ESPN reported details of the Falcons' offer, suggesting a hefty $45 million per year for four years with a guaranteed $100 million.

Cousins arrived in Minnesota from Washington in 2018, leading the Vikings to playoff appearances in 2019 and 2022. Last season started strong for Cousins, placing him at the top of the league in passing touchdowns before an Achilles injury in week eight ended his season prematurely.

This move presumably fills the Falcons' long-standing need for a top-tier quarterback. Since Matt Ryan's departure in 2022, Atlanta has been searching for a reliable replacement, and Cousins appears to be their answer.
