Actor Gerald Anderson is being praise online for his heroic act during the recent typhoon-enhanced heavy rains that caused flooding in Metro Manila.
A viral video captured by user @TmaeOsanomae (formerly on Twitter) shows Anderson wading through floodwaters in Quezon City to help a stranded family.
The heartwarming video shows Anderson gently coaxing a frightened child, saying in Filipino "Come with me, hold on to me. I'll take care of you. "He then safely carries the child to higher ground.
The location of the rescue was confirmed by a comment in thread, stating it happened on Wednesday afternoon in Santo Domingo, Quezon City. Another post further showcases Anderson's compassion. User @PascualLlioyd, who lives near Anderson's residence, shared a photo of him using a makeshift boat to transport people to safety.
This isn't Anderson's first time stepping up during a disaster. Back in 2009, at the young age of 20, he helped rescue neighbors during tropical storm Ondoy. His dedication to helping others extends to his membership in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) since 2016.
He currently holds the rank of Auxiliary Lieutenant Commander in the K9 Squadron, where his partner, actress Julia Barretto, also joined in 2021.
