Former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo Arrested in Indonesia Amid POGO Probe

Dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo has been apprehended in Indonesia as authorities continue to investigate alleged illegal activities linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in her town.

The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission confirmed that Guo was arrested in Tangerang City on September 4. Senator Win Gatchalian and Senator Risa Hontiveros also shared the news on social media.

Hontiveros expressed gratitude to Indonesian authorities for their cooperation and stated that she expects Guo to attend Senate hearings as soon as possible. She also vowed to pursue those who helped Guo escape the country.

Guo, along with her siblings Shiela and Wesley, and alleged cohort Cassandra Li Ong, fled the Philippines during a Senate probe into POGO operations. Shiela and Ong were previously arrested in Batam City and have since returned to the Philippines to face charges.

Indonesian authorities were unable to locate Alice and Wesley during their initial search. Hontiveros revealed that Alice had left the Philippines in July and arrived in Malaysia. The Bureau of Immigration later confirmed her presence in Indonesia.

In response to the Guo family's departure, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin ordered the cancellation of their passports. During a Senate hearing, Shiela admitted that she and her siblings had fled the country by boat.
