KOJC Founder Quiboloy Surrenders After 24-Hour Ultimatum

Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and four associates surrendered to Philippine authorities in Davao City on Sunday, September 8, 2024, following a 24-hour ultimatum issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

According to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, negotiations for the surrender began around 1:30 PM. After authorities gave an ultimatum to come out of one of the buildings within the 30-hectare KOJC compound in Buhangin District, Quiboloy and his colleagues surrendered at 5:30 PM.

A military aircraft then transported them out of Davao City at 6:30 PM, landing at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City at 8:30 PM. They subsequently arrived at Camp Crame in Quezon City around 9:10 PM.

"I confirm that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his aides, Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, and Sylvia Cemañes, are here," Fajardo told reporters outside the PNP custodial center. "It is a joint effort of the police and the military."

Fajardo stated that the individuals were in good condition, except for some experiencing high blood pressure. Quiboloy and his aides will be detained in the same compound as former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, a suspected Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) cohort arrested in Indonesia last week.

The news of Quiboloy's arrest was initially announced by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos on Sunday. Quiboloy is currently facing three arrest warrants, including one issued by the Senate in March and two others issued by courts in Pasig City and elsewhere in April, related to allegations of sexual abuse, child abuse, violence, and human trafficking.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, KOJC lawyer Atty. Israelito Torreon described Quiboloy's surrender as an "ultimate sacrifice," stating that he could not bear to witness the suffering of his flock any longer. Torreon also explained that Quiboloy had been out of reach for several days while awaiting legal remedies.

Quiboloy's last public appearance and statement was earlier this year, when he accused the Marcos administration and the United States of a "conspiracy" to "eliminate" him.
