A missing Pangasinan State University student was found dead on Baywalk in Barangay Poblacion, Lingayen on Tuesday, September 24.
Police identified the victim as Evalend Cervera Salting, a third-year BS Business Administration student of the PSU-Lingayen campus. Salting was last seen near the campus walking towards a popular convenience store on Monday, September 23, and was reported missing at 7 p.m. that day.
Police said John Karlo Salvador Ramos, 35, of Barangay Poblacion, discovered the victim's body while walking in the area with his family on Tuesday night.
The PSU-Lingayen condemned the killing of Salting in an official Facebook post.
"We are devastated to confirm the loss of one of our students, Evalend C. Salting, a 3rd Year BS Business Administration student, whose life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence," the statement read. "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and loved ones of the victim during this incredibly difficult time."
"This senseless act of violence is not only a loss to the victim's family and friends but to the entire PSU Lingayen Community. We condemn this act in the strongest possible terms and are committed to ensuring that justice is served," the university added.
Due to the incident, PSU said they are enhancing safety and security measures for students.
"We will work closely with local law enforcement to support their investigation and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future," the statement said.
Police are conducting follow-up investigations. The victim's family and friends have sought justice for the victim.
