Tropical Depression Gener To Make Landfall In Northern Luzon

Tropical Depression Gener is closing in on Northern Luzon. As of 5:00 PM today, Monday, September 16, Gener was spotted 290 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.


Gener is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. Its central pressure is 996 hectopascals.



Gener is forecast to make landfall in the vicinity of Isabela or Aurora tonight or tomorrow early morning. It may then emerge over the coastal waters of La Union or Pangasinan tomorrow late morning or noon.



Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains in effect in the following 19 areas in Luzon: Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, Real) including Polillo Islands.  



After landfall, Gener will move generally westward over the West Philippine Sea until Wednesday, before turning northwestward on Thursday as it heads towards southern mainland China. Gener is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between late evening Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
